"Grit may be a coarse grain of sand, but when applied to folks who herald from the UK county of Yorkshire, it is an apt description of the resolve and hardness that these northern English people have shown since the Industrial Revolution made its mark.

Both the landscape and the population can be defined by the textile mills, steel foundries, mines and heavy industries that emerged as a result of the now redundant coalfield that lies beneath. The jobs were never easy and the workers were hardened by harsh conditions.

Outgunned by cheaper imports, Yorkshire’s industries went into rapid decline in the post war years and eventually succumbed to mass closures during Margaret Thatcher’s reign as Prime Minister in the 1980s.

But there are pockets of life flickering in this immensely proud county. Within the pro audio industry, both Fane and Precision Devices are good examples of brands that are thriving thanks to the sheer determination of the Barnes family"...
